چکیده

The concentration and sparsity of signal representation in the Hermite transform (HT) basis may highly depend on a properly chosen scaling factor and discrete time shift parameter. In that sense, we propose a simple and efficient iterative procedure for automatic determination of the optimal scaling factor. The optimization criterion is based on the l1-norm acting as a measure of signal concentration in the HT domain. Instead of centering the signal at the zero time instant, we also propose to shift the center for a few points left or right, which will additionally improve the concentration. An important application of the proposed optimization approach is the compression of QRS complexes, where properly chosen scaling factor and time-shift increase the compression performance. The results are verified using synthetic and real examples and compared with the existing approach for the compression of QRS complexes.

A Unified Framework for Delineation of Ambulatory Holter ECG Events via Analysis of a Multiple-Order Derivative Wavelet-Based Measure

In this study, a new long-duration holter electrocardiogram (ECG) major events detection-delineation algorithm is described which operates based on the false-alarm error bounded segmentation of a decision statistic with simple mathematical origin. To meet this end, first three-lead holter data is pre-processed by implementation of an appropriate bandpass finite-duration impulse response (FIR) f...

Planelet Transform: A New Geometrical Wavelet for Compression of Kinect-like Depth Images

With the advent of cheap indoor RGB-D sensors, proper representation of piecewise planar depth images is crucial toward an effective compression method. Although there exist geometrical wavelets for optimal representation of piecewise constant and piecewise linear images (i.e. wedgelets and platelets), an adaptation to piecewise linear fractional functions which correspond to depth variation ov...

Signal compression method for biomedical image using the discrete orthogonal Gauss-Hermite transform

A method is presented for the compression of biomedical images using in place of the discrete cosine transform (DCT) the discrete orthogonal Gauss-Hermite transform (DOGHT). The latter expands the signals on a basis of Gauss-Hermite functions instead of the cosine functions and leads, in many practical cases, to 2-3 times better compression for the same reconstruction error as the DCT. This is ...
